Teeth Whitening Dos & Don’ts

Wherever you are on your teeth whitening journey, it helps to know as much as possible about what’s involved following treatment. Here at Crescent Lodge Dental Practice, based in Clapham London, we’ve put together a list of dos and don’ts to use as a guide following teeth whitening. From things to avoid to things to try, there’s lots we can help with to give you the smile you’ve been waiting for.

Do: keep up with brushing and flossing

We know that having a healthy smile is just as important as a bright and attractive one. While maintaining your oral health takes a lot of care, it’s worth putting in the time and effort now, rather than waiting until it’s too late. And, part of having a bright smile is having one that’s clean and stain-free – so brushing and flossing twice a day is a big part of that.

Don’t: eat and drink staining food and drink

Whether you’re a lover of red wine, coffee, curry or something else, it’s important to try and avoid these foods when you’ve had teeth whitening. If you do indulge, then try and clean your teeth shortly afterwards.

Do: go to a professional

While there are high street teeth whitening kits available, it pays to go professional. At Crescent Lodge, our dentists use Zoom, which you use at home following an appointment at our practice, where we’ll take impressions for your custom-made teeth whitening trays. We also offer an in-practice treatment here in Clapham, which also uses Zoom.

Don’t: forget to clean your teeth before treatment

It’s really important to thoroughly clean your teeth before teeth whitening treatment, as this will help the gel adhere to your teeth and give you the best outcome. We recommend booking in with our hygienists here at Crescent Lodge, who will be happy to give you a thorough clean.

Do: be realistic

The whiteness of your new smile depends on the current colour of your teeth and the amount of staining present. Your dentist can give you advice on how much whiter we can take your smile during your initial consultation with us.

Do: book with Crescent Lodge

Whether it’s for teeth whitening or one of our other cosmetic treatments – or even a spot of general dentistry – we can help. To book in with our team of dentists, here in Clapham Common, simply visit our contact page and get in touch today.
