Common Dermal Fillers Misconceptions
When it comes to any beauty or facial aesthetics treatment, we know how important it is to our clients to feel as informed as possible about what’s involved at every stage of the process, as well as which treatments are right for them.
Here is our dental practice, based in Clapham Common, London, you could be forgiven for thinking we merely carry out dental work. In reality, we complement our treatments with a range of facial aesthetics procedures that further enhance your smile and help refresh and rejuvenate your appearance, too.
One of the leading facial aesthetics treatments at the moment is dermal fillers, and it’s easy to see why. They’re safe and effective, and can generate truly impressive results. In this post, we’ll talk through some of the common misconceptions people have about them – which can help you decide if you’re considering whether or not to have them. Of course, you can also talk to the team here at our Clapham Common dental practice if you need more information.
1. Results will look fake or unnatural
We wholeheartedly disagree. With the care of an expert practitioner, and a procedure carried out at a reputable clinic – both things you can expect here at our Clapham Common dental practice – you can rest assured that a beautiful, subtle result is our goal.
Unlike Botox, dermal fillers don’t ‘relax’ areas of your face, so you won’t feel any restriction in movement (which is something that often comes across as frozen or fake-looking). In addition, tiny amounts are actually injected. The areas treated are highly targeted to ensure you get the outcome you expect.
Conversely, others think there won’t be much of a difference from the treatment. Again, with our Clapham Common dental practice, you’re in safe hands. We’ll work with you to create the appearance you’re looking for.
2. Treatment takes too long
It’s true that certain facial aesthetics procedures take time, or repeat sessions, to achieve the desired results. But dermal fillers aren’t typically one of these – you could enjoy immediate results after just 1 session. Results also last up to a year, and the appointment usually lasts around 30 minutes. So, over a lunch break, you could achieve an incredible look that lasts, with top-ups only needed every few months.
3. The injections are painful
Dermal fillers aren’t known for being painful. In fact, they’re known for being the opposite. The fine needle and expertise of our specialists mean we can keep discomfort to a minimum. You’ll also have little in the way of downtime and may not even experience any side effects (those that do typically cite mild swelling or redness).
4. I won’t like the results of fillers
We do everything we can here at our Clapham Common dental practice to ensure you love your results. Fillers are one of the ‘safest’ facial aesthetics options as the hyaluronic acid used can actually be broken down. This means that you can effectively ‘reverse’ its effects with no negative affects.
Reversing fillers isn’t something that’s that common. However, with an increase in uptake for fillers themselves, it follows that more people may want to dissolve them, too. It’s worth remembering that while long-lasting, dermal fillers are non-permanent. This allows you to change your mind down the road because you’re not doing something that will last forever.
5. It’s better to have plastic surgery instead of fillers
Some people think plastic surgery is a better alternative, but there are usually far greater risks, and much more expense, involved. There’s also a longer recovery time associated with surgery. Or the possible chance that you might want future surgeries to correct a previous result.
Dermal fillers are a fantastic alternative to plastic surgery. You can top-up when required, or decide against them in the future, with no detriment to you or your skin. They can shape, sculpt and lift, and can even be used for non-surgical nose jobs, where they can effectively straighten the nose.
