10 Questions On Adult Braces Answered
Have you got questions about adult braces? Today, our Clapham dentist will answer 10 common questions about them in our unique blog. Read on to find out more.
1. Do braces hurt?
No, although some people do experience some slight discomfort as pressure is needed to slowly align the teeth. Invisalign braces are among the more comfortable options and can be removed if you ever need a quick break (bearing in mind you’ll need to wear them 20-22 hours per day).
2. Are adult braces expensive?
We offer finance to our patients, to help with cost and budgeting. Considering that straightening your smile is a permanent change, it’s a worthy investment. Invisalign braces are often comparable to the cost of fixed braces, and this is despite the impressive technology used to plot your treatment.
3. Can you get adult braces on the NHS?
Sometimes, though it’s unlikely you’ll have anything as advanced as Invisalign braces.
4. Will I need retainers after braces?
Yes, retainers are recommended in order to keep the teeth in their new positions. Your dentist will advise you about how often to wear them.
5. Can you eat while wearing braces?
Yes, with fixed braces – though you might need to be careful about what you eat, to prevent damage to the apparatus, and avoid getting food stuck in the wires and brackets. With Invisalign braces, you can remove these whenever you need to eat, so there are no limits on your diet.
6. How long do adult braces take?
It varies from person to person, usually anywhere from a year to two years. We can give you a timeframe when you book your Invisalign consultation. As it plots your treatment, it can also calculate the time it will take for your results.
7. Can people see my braces?
Wearing Invisalign braces, no – because they’re made from clear plastic acrylic, so are extremely discreet. In fact, people likely won’t be able to tell you’re wearing them. Another reason not to eat while wearing Invisalign braces is that they can discolour or stain.
8. Will I need treatment again in the future?
Provided you follow your treatment programme and wear your retainers as directed, it’s unlikely you’ll need to repeat the treatment. If you do, it’s probable that it will be a short treatment period.
9. I’ve had braces before. Can I have Invisalign?
Yes, but it depends on when you last had treatment. We can look during your consultation to see if it’s an option for you.
10. Where should I go for my adult braces?
