Lip Fillers Pros & Cons

Our mission here at Crescent Lodge dental practice in Clapham Common, London, is to be as open and honest about our treatments as is possible. That’s why we’ve put together this special post on lip fillers, outlining the pros and cons of treatment, so you know exactly what to expect and can make a balanced decision.

First of all, a bit of background to lip fillers. They’re made of plumping, hydrating hyaluronic acid, which is also found in the body. This makes them extremely safe and there’s less chance of complications such as rejection or allergic reaction. They’re a routine beauty treatment that we carry out on a regular basis, and can be performed quickly and easily, with long-lasting results.

Here’s a few more good points about our lip fillers in Clapham.

Lip filler pros

Non-invasive

A temporary boost for your face (and your confidence), lip augmentation sculpt and shape your smile and add volume where it’s needed without surgery. As an added bonus, because you haven’t had surgery, you’ve got less downtime and less potential for side-effects, too.

Non-permanent

If you find yourself wanting to change your approach next time you have lip fillers, then you can – while long-lasting, they’re not permanent, so you can tweak and touch-up as required.

Reversible

If you have lip fillers and don’t like their appearance, you can speed up the body’s natural breaking-down process with lip filler dissolving injections. These contain hyaluronidase, an enzyme which destroys the hyaluronic acid. Other injectables, such as botox, simply have to wear off over time. Lip dissolving injections are usually only recommended in cases where there is a problem, such as overfilled lips or lumps and bumps.

Lip filler cons

As with any treatment, there are downsides. Here’s what you can expect with lip fillers.

Repeat treatments

To keep up your amazing results, you’ll need repeat treatments every few months. We can advise you on this during your consultation, but as a rule of thumb, you might be able to enjoy results for as long as 12 months.

Exceptions apply

Not everyone will be suitable. Those who are pregnant, have an underlying health condition, or who may be susceptible to problems with areas such as blood-clotting, aren’t advised to have lip fillers. We’ll talk to you about this during your consultation.
