Crescent Lodge Dental – FAQs about our invisible braces here in Clapham
Healthcare News recently reported that the number of invisible braces patients has risen by 177% and here at our south west London practise we’ve also noticed the number of orthodontic patients opting for more discreet types of braces has increased. It makes sense. After all, if you don’t have put up with a mouthful of metal displayed prominently across the front surfaces of your teeth and bonded in place, why would you?
Here at our Clapham dental practice, we offer 3 different types of invisible braces; Invisalign, lingual and Damon Clear. Let’s see if we can answer some of your most commonly asked questions concerning the braces we provide:
How old do you have to be to have braces fitted?
We find that you can already identify alignment problems in the mouths of 5 year olds and have fitted 6 and 7 year olds with braces.
How visible are invisible braces?
Invisalign braces are made with tough, transparent thermoplastic and the teeth can be seen through them. They fit over the teeth in the same way a mouth guard would. Lingual braces fit to the back of the teeth and are even more discreet, while Damon Clear, although they consist of see through brackets and a tooth coloured wire, are perhaps the most prominent.
For how long are invisible braces worn?
The treatment period really depends on the nature of the alignment problem you’re trying to correct. Lingual braces generally fix mild alignment issues at the front of the mouth and so are worn for just a few months. Other types of braces can be worn for up a year and in some cases even longer.
Do they hurt?
All braces take a bit of getting used to after they’ve been fitted, but after a few days of adjustment, you should find your new braces quite comfortable.
Will they affect my speech?
Again it’s a case of getting used to them. Within a few days, you’ll be fine.
How will my teeth look when the treatment is over?
Braces will pull your teeth into straighter alignment. That’s their job. When your orthodontist plans the journey of your teeth, it will be with the best smile you can achieve as the end goal. Your teeth should look straighter and your smile more attractive.
